Culture is a vital thread running through the fabric of all organisations. However, there remain unanswered and important questions. How can it be best shaped, embedded and assessed?
In February and March 2016, Board Intelligence and the IIA conducted two roundtable discussions with audit committee chairs in an attempt to explore this. The output will inform the FRC’s culture review, due to be published this summer.
On the issue of assessing culture, this is what we found...
Soft and hard measures of organisational culture are certainly part of the answer but they do not furnish board members with the full picture. Use information from a variety of sources and people and you can begin to develop a fuller view of what’s going on. Seek out your own evidence and don’t rely purely on what is presented to you.
