Hannah Prevett has quoted Jennifer Sundberg in this week’s Sunday Times.
“Jennifer Sundberg, managing director of Board Intelligence, said it was no surprise that directors were not aware of everything that went on at large businesses.
‘There is a growing acknowledgment of the scale of the challenge of being on the board of a large, complex organisation and what follows from that is the question of whether it’s possible for anyone to do the job,’ she said.
Some directors are feeling the heat, she added. ‘We polled over 300 directors, asking whether a FTSE 100 non-exec position was more of a privilege or poisoned chalice, and they were split down the middle. We also asked if some of our largest businesses were too big and too complex to govern and, again, the audience was split down the middle.’”
