For Governance Professionals
ICSA — Guernsey Conference: 1st May
ICSA — Jersey Conference: 2nd May
In order to uphold the high standards of governance, risk and compliance that have been set for businesses on the island, governance professionals must remain ever vigilant. Designed specifically for company secretaries and governance leaders, the ICSA Conferences in Guernsey and Jersey have a theme of ‘building board resilience’. It highlights the importance of effective boards that are fit for the future and can champion good governance practices, not just among the Crown Dependencies, but on the global stage.
Don’t miss Board Intelligence’s Nasri El-Sayegh, Market Director Corporate Service Providers, presenting on ‘Is your board getting the right information?’ in Jersey. And come and visit the Board Intelligence stand at both conferences to meet the team and find out how we can help you improve your board effectiveness.

For Board Members
Chairman Think Tank Breakfast: 15th May
In 2015 we formed a Think Tank to foster ideas that improve the way our boards do business. We engaged over 700 board members, reported findings in a weekly FT column and exhibited our visual minutes from each session at the Royal Academy of Arts. In 2019 our Think Tank is back, and we’re exploring the themes of decision making, board information, and employee voice.
Our next Think Tank breakfast will focus on decision making, around the topic “There is greater scrutiny than ever on the information that boards receive, yet board pack quality is deteriorating rather than improving — what can the Chair do to improve this and what are those that are bucking the trend doing to make a difference?”
If you’d like to join us and contribute to the debate, please contact us to request an invitation.
For Financial Services Professionals
Information Overload in the Boardroom: 8th May
Using Board Intelligence research, the ICAEW’s new report Information Overload: Effective Boards and Committees in Financial Services highlights a common problem in Financial Services boardrooms. Board packs are continuing to increase in size, sometimes breaching 1,000 pages. It is not humanly possible for a director to read, understand and digest this level of information and ultimately make the required decisions requested, in the limited time available.
Join our breakfast roundtable with the ICAEW to discuss these findings, and learn what tangible steps can be taken to implement effective changes within your company.
For Private Equity Professionals
The Board’s Role & Value in PE-Backed Businesses: 2nd May (Manchester)
Board meetings are a key tool for value creation — making the board pack an important focus for PE houses and their portfolio companies. Yet, few boards manage to make it value-enhancing.
To understand what’s going wrong, and why, we engaged with over 100 investment professionals, portfolio company executives, and experienced non-executives and our research revealed a worrying disconnect between what is expected from board meetings and what they actually achieve, as well as widespread concerns about the quality of board reporting.
Join our breakfast roundtables in London and Manchester to discuss these findings, and learn what leading portfolio company boards are doing to deliver value-enhancing board meetings.
PEI — Operating Partners Forum Europe: 21st–22nd May
The PEI Operating Partners Forum is the only European event dedicated to anyone concerned with private equity.
We’re proud to be sponsoring this year’s conference as well as hosting the panel ‘Improving board effectiveness to ensure board meetings completement value creation strategy’. Please do come and see the panel hosted by Megan Pantelides, Market Director Private Equity, and meet the team at stand 14 to meet the team.
