The best chairmen have cool heads

Difficult situations often require experience gained in times of adversity.

“If you can keep your head when all around are losing theirs,” a wise colleague once told me, “you’ve probably failed to grasp the seriousness of the situation.” This quip explains why journalists are rarely put in charge of anything important.

For chairmen of boards, however, a cool head even in times of extreme stress is valuable. The duties of directors are significant. So how much more significant is the role of the person running the whole board...?
