SMR — A Missed Opportunity?: 3rd and 24th April
Many firms think reporting under the Senior Managers Regime is “over and done with”, and now treat it as a box-ticking exercise. This is a mistake — and one that could leave your organisation exposed.
What’s more, this is also a missed opportunity. Done correctly, SMR not only ensures compliant papers, but transforms decision-making processes and enables better decisions across the whole organisation.
So how do you make the most of SMR? How do you scale and embed its reporting requirements outside the boardroom? Join our breakfast roundtables to find out how leading financial services firms have used SMR to change the way they do business.
Chairman Think Tank Breakfast: 4th April
In 2015 we formed a Think Tank to foster ideas that improve the way our boards do business. We engaged over 700 board members, reported findings in a weekly FT column and exhibited our visual minutes from each session at the Royal Academy of Arts. In 2019 our Think Tank is back, and we’re exploring the themes of decision making, board information, and employee voice.
Our next Think Tank breakfast will focus on decision making, around the topic “good decisions attract little praise but bad ones put boards in the spotlight — what can boards do to improve the quality of their decision making.”
If you’d like to join us and contribute to the debate, please contact us to request an invitation.
The Board’s Role & Value in PE-Backed Businesses: 4th April
Board meetings are a key tool for value creation — making the board pack an important focus for PE houses and their portfolio companies. Yet, few boards manage to make it value-enhancing.
To understand what’s going wrong, and why, we engaged with over 100 investment professionals, portfolio company executives, and experienced non-executives and our research revealed a worrying disconnect between what is expected from board meetings and what they actually achieve, as well as widespread concerns about the quality of board reporting.
Join our breakfast roundtables in London and Manchester to discuss these findings, and learn what leading portfolio company boards are doing to deliver value-enhancing board meetings.
ICSA — Listed Companies Conference: 5th April
Public trust in big business remains low, with lingering questions around transparency and standards of practice leading to scepticism of their ability to uphold good corporate governance. The requirements set out in the revised Corporate Governance Code, which included actions on executive pay, corporate culture and reporting, looked to address a number of issues that governance professionals need to be considering and where they need to bring about significant change.
Join us at ICSA’s Listed Companies Conference which will look at how the objectives of the Corporate Governance Code have played out in practice, whether or not the proposed audit reforms are robust enough and what investors will be focusing on in 2019.
How Does Your Board Pack Stack Up?: 30th April
Join our breakfast roundtable to learn more about our ICSA research findings, how to evaluate your board materials, how you benchmark compared to your peers and how to create a business case for change. At the end of this session we will introduce the next events in the series: The Art & Science of Agenda Planning and Best Practice Board Packs.
