Company Secretary Strategic Adviser Series: In Conversation with Liz Kelly, St James’s Place Plc: 1st October
As we continue our Strategic Adviser Series, we delve more into the role and responsibilities of the Company Secretary. From supporting board decision making and offering strategic advice to embedding corporate governance, the Company Secretary role of today requires a much wider skillset and comes with increased expectations and more demands — often with no extra time or resource to effect change.
In part 3 of this event series, we’ll be joined by Liz Kelly, Director of the CEO office and Company Secretary of St James’s Place Plc. We will discuss Liz’s background at St James’s Place Plc, her position as a non-executive director of Saffron Building Society, as well as her other roles including Group General Counsel at Nationwide Building Society and Legal Director and Company Secretary at World Snooker. We’ll explore how these roles have helped shape her approach to the Company Secretary function, and what the future of the role might look like.
If you’d like to join us at the discussion over drinks and nibbles, please contact us to request an invitation.
The Art & Science of Agenda Planning: 16th October
Join our breakfast roundtable to learn more from our research with the Cambridge Judge Business School on board members’ common complaints regarding board agendas and what Chairmen and board members really want.
We’ll also share the Company Secretary’s perspective on the typical agenda planning process, time sinks, and pain points. Finally, we will introduce the Board Intelligence Six Conversations Model to support planning effective agendas, and tools you can use to streamline your process.
Best Practice Board Packs: 29th October
Join our breakfast roundtable to learn what good looks like and how to get there. We’ll unpack the contents of a best practice board pack, talk about the traits of a great board paper, and you’ll come away with a 3-step guide to improving your board pack and streamlining the creation process.

Chairman Think Tank Breakfast: 15th October
In our new series of Chairman Think Tank breakfasts, we’re revisiting some of the topics discussed earlier this year — Employee Voice and Board Information — as well as introducing a new topic — Culture.
This breakfast will focus on the latter. Culture drives innovation, attracts the best talen, and gives an edge over the competition — making it possibly your organisation’s most valuable intangible asset. And yet, boards struggle to have meaningful conversations about it. How can you nurture it, measure it, and channel it to do great things?
If you’d like to join us and contribute to the debate, please contact us to request an invitation.
